Letter to the Father
CHAZA CHARAFEDDINE
Solo & Friends
29.04. - 13.05.2023
Vernissage: 29 April, 2023, 4-7pm
Calling to mind the epistemic architectures of ancient Islamic manuscripts, Chaza Charafeddine copies miniature versions of Franz Kafka's letter to his father in handwritten German and Arabic. The artist works with the visual elements of the ancient page, and explores the relationship between translation & original, writing, private communication, desire & love. Chaza Charafeddine, born in Beirut, is an internationally exhibited writer and artist who lives and works in Beirut. This exhibition is the first in a series of MKM exhibitions called SOLO & FRIENDS. They will be dedicated to one single work, accompanied, however, by the current ensemble of MKM artists. Charafeddine's Letter to the Father is accompanied by works of Walid Raad, Ali Kaaf, Taysir Batniji, Maryam Motallebzadeh, Željka Mićanović Miljković, Ekin Su Koç, Emin Turan, Elisabeth Masé, Patricia Lambertus, Furkan Akhan, Razan Nassreddine, Alexander Polzin, Chris Newman, Raziye Kubat, Mohamad Al Roumi, Maliheh Afnan, Katharina Karrenberg, Joseph Sassoon Semah, Elza Javakhishvili, Eva Beierheimer & Miriam Laussegger, Antonia Baehr, Ana Sontag, Gilbert Hage.
